Orientation of city:

Ahmedabad also known as Amdavad is popularly knowns as “Boston of India and Manchester of India” is the

largest city and former capital of the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarter of the Ahmedabad

Population

At the 2011 Census of India Ahmedabad had a population of 5,633,927, making it the fifth most populous city in

Shalby Hospitals is an Indian organisation which was established in Ahmedabad as a joint replacement centre in 1994 by

Dr. Vikram Shah. currently Shalby Ahmedabad has 450 beds.

During the period 1994–2009, the joint replacement team performed more than 20,000 TKR procedures.The length of

Nine storied building with 2800 bed capacity, proposed to increase it upto 4800 beds in near future, where over 1,300,000

patients are treated and nearly 80,000 surgeries performed annually.

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital is the largest hospital in Asia. A proposal has been drawn up by Gujarat government to seek

World Bank aid for a nine-storey 2,000-bed building on Civil Hospital premises, raising its capacity to 4,800 beds –

making it the world’s largest hospital.

2. Sheth Vadilal Sarabhai General Hospital (VS Hospital)

VS Hospital is a multi-activity and multi-specialty hospital, which was the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The

hospital was founded in year 1931 with an initial capital of 400,000 Rupees. It has 1,115 beds and is run by AMC and a

committee consisting of members of the Sarabhai and Chinai families who had donated the hospital to the city. Over

500,000 patients are treated here annually, averaging 1,600 patients a day. Also 25,000 surgeries are performed every year.

Plans are underway to expand the hospital capacity by building two new towers which will increase capacity by 2000

beds.

Being near to the national highway, VS hospital is the centre for significant trauma management. It is the only government

Medical College

1. B.J. Medical College

B.J. Medical College (BJMC) is a medical college situated in Ahmedabad, Gujarat India. Affiliated to Gujarat University,

BJMC is one of the largest medical institute in the country.

2. Smt. NHL Municipal Medical College

Smt. Nathiba Hargovandas Lakhmichand (NHL) Municipal Medical College (NHLMMC), is a Municipal Medical

College located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India affiliated with the Gujarat University. The Medical College was established

by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in 1963, which became only the second Municipal Corporation in India

to establish its own Medical College.
